LSTAR is thrilled to announce that nominations are now open for the 2023 Don Smith Commercial Building Awards.
This event seeks to recognize and honour exceptional achievements in the realm of commercial real estate, celebrating top-notch commercial, industrial, multi-family, and community buildings across the LSTAR region. Named after the late Don Smith, co-founder of the renowned construction company EllisDon, the awards have been a cornerstone of architectural inspiration since their establishment in 2009.
"The Don Smith Commercial Building Awards represent a momentous occasion for the architectural and construction community," says 2023 LSTAR President Adam Miller, acknowledging the profound impact the awards have had in inspiring excellence and innovation within the industry.
With four distinct categories, comprising Commercial (retail and office spaces), Industrial, Multi-family, and Institutional (community) buildings, the awards provide a platform to showcase the finest works of construction artistry.
Nominations are now open, and individuals and organizations are encouraged to put forward deserving projects for consideration. The nomination process involves downloading the following Nomination Package, completing the Nomination Form, and submitting it by email to claire [at] lstar.ca (Claire[at]LSTAR[dot]ca). The deadline for all submissions is September 30th, 2023, at 4:30 pm EST.
Furthermore, the event offers sponsorship opportunities for any business interested in supporting the celebration of architectural excellence in our region. The awards' timeline is as follows: nominations must be received no later than Saturday, September 30th, 2023, at 4:30 pm EST. Subsequently, a panel of four esteemed local judges will review all submissions in November 2023. The winners' names will be unveiled during the grand Awards Ceremony slated for February 22nd, 2024.
To be eligible for consideration, nominees must be investment, commercial, or industrial building, development, or renovation projects that have been completed between August 1st, 2021, and July 31st, 2023, within the jurisdiction of LSTAR. This includes locations within London, St. Thomas, and Strathroy, with Elgin and Middlesex Counties also being encompassed within the eligible region. All these projects should have an innovative design and be sensitive to the environment.
As the anticipation builds, the architectural and construction communities eagerly await the revelation of those outstanding projects that have contributed to the growth and development of the region.
